Sunnyvale Little League champs in postseason play

There are many major- and minor-division champions in the leagues that make up the District 44 Little League.

The district, though, is looking for just one in each division.

And the search begins next week when the District 44 champs compete in the Tournament of Champions in major- and minor-division play.

The Cupertino American Little League champions open the major-division tournament when they collide with Santa Clara Homestead on June 16, 5:30 p.m., at the Moreland Little League field.

Cupertino National takes on Santa Clara Briarwood-El Camino a day later, 5:30 p.m., at Santa Clara Homestead, and Tri-Cities battles Campbell at the same time at Sunnyvale Metro.

A pair of Sunnyvale champions, from Serra and Metro, will go at it on June 18 at Tri-Cities, and Sunnyvale National meets Moreland the same day at Santa Clara Westside. Both games begin at 5:30 p.m.

Sunnyvale Southern draws a first-round bye, but will meet the Santa Clara Westside-Mountain View winner on June 19, 5:30 p.m., at Campbell.

Los Altos will take on the Cupertino American-Homestead winner on June 21, 5:30 p.m., at Metro.

The tournament semifinals are set for June 23 at Campbell and Moreland, with the champship game to be played on June 24, 5:30 p.m., at Santa Clara Homestead.

Cupertino American and Cupertino National will have local pride on the line when they meet in a first-round game in the minor-division TOC. The two clubs open the tourney battling each other on June 16, 5:30 p.m., at Moreland.

Tri-Cities and Sunnyvale Serra meet in a minor-division tourney opener the same day at Sunnyvale Southern's home field.

A day later, Sunnyvale Southern sends its minor- division champ to the diamond against Onizuka at 5:30 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Southern field.
