Residents push for new pool
Sunnyvale resident Holly Lofgren and other residents will ask city officials to consider again a proposal to build a new swimming pool in town to meet the demands of adult swimmers in the community.
They will make their pitch to the city's Parks and Recreation Commission at a meeting at the Sunnyvale Community Center June 25 at 7 p.m.
The new pool should be centrally located in the city to benefit all residents, Lofgren said in an interview with The Sun.
Residents will also ask officials to consider remodeling up to five pools in the city over the next 25 years.
The requests come after the city, following a study done last year, concluded it would not be feasible to use more than $400,000 to build a new shower-locker room facility at a pool at the Sunnyvale Middle School, as requested by the group.
The pool is among the most popular of all the pools in Sunnyvale, Lofgren said.
It is one of four school pools the city maintains under an agreement with the Sunnyvale School District, thus allowing the use of the pools by the public.
At the meeting, the city will present another study called "Operational Expansion of Adult Swimming," which will review the use of the pools, Lofgren said.
The Sunnyvale City Council will look over the study at a meeting on July 29.
