    West Valley Light Opera opens season

    West Valley Light Opera Association will open its final production of its 35th season, "Will Rogers Follies" at the Saratoga Civic Theater on Saturday, June 24, 8 p.m. Opening night festivities include a champagne gala. Performances continue on weekends through July 29.

    This popular musical, with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and book by Peter Stone, recreates the days of th Ziegfeld Follies throught the life and times of the legendary Will Rogers.

    The production is directed and choreographed by Carlson Sauls; William C. Coye serves as musical director and Elizabeth Dale is the show's producer.

    Adventures in lace planned

    "Do the Twist: an Adventure in Lace for Kids," a class for kids, ages 9 to 17, will be held from July 31 to Aug. 4, 8 a.m. to noon at The Lace Museum, 552 S. Murphy Ave., in Sunnyvale.

    Learn about lace-making as history; discover the many different kinds of lace; watch lace being made; and learn to make lace and decorate your own garment with antique laces and lace you make yourself.

    Artists and crafters wanted

    Congregation Shir Hadash is accepting applications for space for their 2000 Fall Festival, scheduled for Nov. 18 and 19. The festival will feature the sale of arts, fine arts, crafts and Judaica. A six foot space will b provided for exhibitors, who also will be listed in the event's program. Entertainment and demonstrations and lectures are scheduled in connection with exhibits. Baby-sitting also will be provided for customers.

    The festival will be held in the sanctuary of Congregation Shir Hadash, 16555 Shannon Road in Los Gatos. Call Gloria Alabaster, 408.379.8432 for application details.

    Senior women wanted

    The Cupertino-Sunnyvale Senior Day Services and collaborating artist Paulette Peterson are looking for senior Santa Clara County women interested in sharing their histories and life stories for a project entitled "Reflections of Her. . ." The exhibit will consist of symbolic self-portraits. written histories an a series of monotype prints inspired by the life stories of participating women. The project is funded by an Arts Guild Community Grant sponsored by the Arts Council Silicon Valley and the Community Foundation Silicon Valley.     CSSDS is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing intergenerational and multicultural activities that physically, mentally and socially stimulate less independent and frail seniors, and to preventing isolation of these seniors from the community.

    Swing a club against hunger

    Phillips Semiconductors has teamed with Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties for the eleventh-annual Second Harvest Food Bank Golf Tournament on Monday, July 10 at Stanford University Golf Course.

    Individual players can reserve their space for $300 or as a Corporate Sponsor with a tee signage for $500. Foursomes are $1,200 0r $1,450 with tee signage. Early bird registration is encouraged and those registering by June 23 will be entered to in an additional prize.

    All golfing fees goes toward helping an average of 116,400 families with children, individuals and seniors each month.
