    The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department.

    Check Theft--Between 9 p.m. May 17 and 9 a.m. May 18, 600 block Iris Avenue. The suspect spent the night at the victim's house, and while the victim took a shower the following morning, the suspect took a check and wrote it to herself in the amount of $275 by forging the victim's signature and cashing it at a credit union. Later that morning, the police contacted the suspect and confirmed the forgery and theft through a handwriting sample.

    Tampering with Vehicle--May 25, 11:20 p.m., 600 block of East El Camino at the Falore Nissan Dealership. While driving, a police officer observed two suspects standing on either side of a new vehicle in the front of the dealership; one was grabbing and pulling the side of the car. By the time the officer turned around, the suspects had jumped in a car and were driving away. After stopping and searching the car, the officer found an emblem under the front seat.

    Vehicle Pursuit--May 5, 6:08 p.m. Sunnyvale police stopped a car after an adult male driver violated the law. The driver accelerated his car, engaging the police in a vehicle pursuit though Sunnyvale and parts of Los Altos. The chase ended when the suspect became involved in a traffic accident with another vehicle in Los Altos. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity is unknown. The case is under investigation.

    Auto Theft--May 4, between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., 1100 block North Mathilda Avenue. The victim found her car, which had been parked and locked outside of her workplace, forced open by a lock punch. Her CD player, amplifier, equalizer and several CDs had been stolen, worth over $1,400.
