Pollution poses threat

I am stating my opinion about one of the biggest problems that we have in the present day: pollution.

Pollution is the biggest long-term threat to our world. Everyone isn't doing their part to keep our earth and our atmosphere clean.

If everyone could just throw their garbage away in the trash can instead of on the ground, it would make a big difference.

My proposal is that more trash cans specifically for recyclables are distributed to homeowners, and that more cans are put out in the public.

I dislike walking to my high school, seeing trash in the gutters and all over the streets. I do not feel proud to say that this is where I live. It makes me mad to see that my neighborhood is covered in trash.

Now it is up to you, the public. Have you looked around your neighborhood lately? If we just keep the area around our homes clean, the word "pollution" will slowly fade away.

Watch out for drains

Pollution is a major issue these days, and to protect our community, we need to stop it before it gets out of hand.

We are students at Homestead High School, and our main goal is to educate the community about how to stop water pollution.

Water pollution is caused when rainfall runoff washes things such as soil, yard waste, fertilizer, motor oil and pesticides into storm drains and creeks.

They eventually end up in lakes where we get our drinking water. This destroys the beauty of our creeks and lakes, harms fish and wildlife and ruins recreational opportunities.

To help stop water pollution, we should never use storm drains to dispose of harmful materials. We should also try to reduce our use of fertilizers and pesticides.

By doing a few small things, we can greatly reduce the pollution that gets into our water sources. We hope our letter will help the community become more aware of water pollution and how to stop it.
