Sunnyvale summer fun

Due to an error last week information specific to Sunnyvale was left out of the summer activities guide that ran on the cover. Below is the complete information for Sunnyvale.

Arts and Crafts

Clay, embrodery, jewelry, paper-making, pottery and other art classes are offered throughout the summer. Two day camps, a Multi-Craft Workshop and a Visual Arts Camp, are available this year. Fees vary.

Day Camps

The city offers camps for kids as young as 4 and 5 years old, as well as elementary school kids. Camper Cubs, for preschoolers, is a half-day camp. Older kids can attend full-day camps, or the Afternoon Camps program, which meets from 1 to 5 p.m. There is also Camp Explore, a one-week camp that takes kids in and around Sunnyvale the week of Aug. 24.

Offers Summer Splash '98 for ages 5-12. Includes guest speakers, field trips, special events and overnights, June 22 through Aug. 27. Cost is $650 per month.

Library programs

The library will be closed for renovations July 3 to Sept. 7, but it will still offer programs for children and families. The "Reading Magic" program kicks off June 13 with an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Children's Room. The summer reading program runs through Sept. 27 for children ages 3-16. Reading 10 or more books gets children a free paperback. Throughout July and August the library is sponsoring "Stories and Activities in the Parks." The events are always at 2 p.m., although the dates and places alternate through the summer. There's also "Family Storytimes in the Courtyard," from 11 to 11:30 a.m., July 16, 30 and Aug. 13, at the Sunnyvale Town Center.

This private organization offers a variety of sports day camps through the city. Sports include soccer, basketball, baseball, flag football and roller hockey for ages 6-12. Costs and requirements vary according to sport.

Cool off during summer's hot afternoons at one of five city pools, beginning June 27 or 29, depending on the location. All pools except Washington are closed July 4. Hours vary depending on the location. Cost is $1.25 for youth under age 18, $2 for adults ($2 and $3 for non-residents). Passes are available. Friday nights the Washington Pool is open from 7:30 to 9 p.m., July 10-Aug. 14. Cost is $1.25 per person ($2 non-residents).
