    Hiller Aviation Museum to host 'Vertical Challenge'

    The Hiller Aviation Museum is hosting its second annual "Vertical Challenge" Helicopter Invasion on June 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year's air show will allow visitors to see firsthand helicopter operations, military, emergency services and air show helicopters. Exhibited at the show will be a "PaveHawk" rescue helicopter, part of the 129th Rescue Squad based in Moffett Field in Sunnnnyvale.

    Hiller Aircraft has built more than 3,000 helicopters, which mostly are associated with the Korean War Era. The Hiller Aviation Museum is located at the San Carlos Airport, immediately adjacent to Highway 101 at 601 Skyway Road. Call Willie Turner at 650.654.0200.

    Art Guild sponsors mask-making workshop

    The Orchard Valley Ceramics Art Guild of Sunnyvale is sponsoring a mask making workshop and potluck lunch with local artist Susan Worley on Sunday, June 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Claymaker, 1240 North 13th Street in San Jose. Costs for the workshop is $45 for OVCAG members, $55 for nonmembers. Clay and plaster cloth will be provided; however participants must make their own arrangements for glazing and firing their pieces. For more information, call Irene Jenkins at 408.739.9435.

    Russian Collection show held at Sunnyvale Library

    The Sunnyvale Public Library will continue its multicultural program series, called Reflections: Celebrating Sunnyvale Diversity, with a Russian Collection Performance on Saturday, June 23, at 3 p.m. in the Library Program Room.

    All ages are welcome to join a troupe of dancers from Russia and the former Soviet Union as they present Russian cultural traditions through folk dance, costumes and music. The Sunnyvale Public Library is located at 655 W. Olive Ave., Sunnyvale. For more information, contact the Reference Desk at 408.730.7300.

    De Anza College vocal concert held on June 22

    De Anza College is sponsoring a Vocal Jazz Concert for the Spring Quarter on June 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the campus' Choral Hall. The concert will offer a varied repertoire consisting of well-known tunes by Harold Arlen, Bill Evans, Clare Fischer, Fats Wallace, Richie Cole, Chick Corea and John Hendricks. The Walter Bankovitch Trio will accompany the singers during the program.

    Well-known Bay Area jazz singer and De Anza alumnus Darryl Rowe will also make a special guest appearance during the program. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $7 and $5.
