Troy Tulowitzski is El Camino's MVP

Fremont's Troy Tulowitzski was unbeatable as a pitcher for the Firebirds this spring.
And that's not just a sports writer tossing around another sports cliché... he really was unbeatable!
The Fremont righthander posted an 11-0 record to lead the Firebirds to the title in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League and into the Central Coast Section playoffs.
So when it came time for the coaches of the SCVAL's El Camino Division to pick their all-league team, they certainly couldn't ignore Tulowitzski.
They didn't. The Fremont junior was named the division's most valuable player, and topped a list of six Firebirds who were selected to the all-league first team.
Tulowitzski claimed his 11th straight mound win when the Firebirds knocked off Live Oak in the first round of the CCS playoffs. He posted a low 1.65 earned run average for Fremont and recorded an impressive 85 strikeouts.
But as good as he was on the mound, Tulowitzski was equally as impressive at the plate. He pounded the baseball at a .512 clip for the 'Birds, clubbing three home runs.
Tulowitzski was joined on the El Camino Division's all-league first team by pitcher Scott Brown, infielders Brandon Klein and Pat Burgess, and outfielders Kyle Severns and Ron Cerna.
Homestead's Robbie Hoffman was also picked to the all-league first team infield in the division.
Softball
Lynbrook stars Lauren Leuder and Stacey Benzing won special honors when the El Camino softball coaches picked their all-league squad for the 2001 season.
Leuder, Lynbrook's talented senior shortstop, was named the division's most valuable player and Benzing was tagged the most valuable pitcher. The two combined to lead the Vikings to the division championship this spring and into the CCS playoffs.
Homestead put four players on the all-league list, including Julie Colvin, Ashley Suth, Brandi Tomasovitch and Karen Purdy.
Robin Glass, Jessica Moore and Jennifer Juanes of Fremont were also named to the all-league team along with Saratoga's Jenny Cohen.
Monta Vista's Erin McNulty was named the most valuable defensive player in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL this season.
Volleyball
It was another outstanding year for the Homestead volleyball team, and Nick Miluso played an important role in that success for the Mustangs.
So important, in fact, that the coaches of the SCVAL named him the most valuable player when they got together to select their all-league squad.
Miluso was named the MVP with teammates Josh Cavin and Ernest Chen earning spots on the all-league first team.
