Teachers' behavior is embarrassing
After reading the article titled "Teachers give boss an 'F' in education" (The Sun, June 11), we are embarrassed for the teachers of the Fremont Education Association.
There is no place in the working world where you can publicy insult and embarrass your boss and expect a raise. Behaviors such as this will not develop the trust that your organization so desires. Nor will these behaviors maintain the support of the community of voters and taxpayers.
As concerned citizens and parents at Fremont High School we implore you to set aside these demanding tactics, get to the table and settle this contract dispute in a respectful manner that will reflect well on the profession of teaching.

Air traffic rattles the furniture
I just moved in near the Town Center. The noise from the jets, planes and helicopters using Moffett Field sometimes rattles my furniture. Thank goodness it is not at night. No one could sleep.
Surely there are businesses represented by the Chamber of Commerce that will not be bothered by any aircraft noise--especially when they are closed at night. But I am bothered already. And anyone who runs for City Council in Sunnyvale should be ready to prove what he or she has done to secure a future for Moffett Field that brings less noise to our community.

The answer to FUHSD woes: private schools
The FUHSD has been saddled too long with the contract negotiations between the teachers' union and the district administration. District money was discovered and the teachers' union jumped on it demanding pay raises. At first, the union wanted the full amount available, which would have been a 25 percent pay raise. That has been toned back some. But while the union demands and threatens the administration, guess who suffers? If your answer is the students (and of course, their parents), you get an "A" today.
Here is something to keep in mind. I refer to the FUHSD Annual Report sent to us taxpayers at the end of 1996. A mid-range teacher in the Fremont district received a salary in 1994-95 that is almost 20 percent higher than the 1994-95 California state average. Think about that, folks.
So, do you really want to solve the problem? Try freedom. Get the government out of education. Private schools cost much less, education is education instead of all this feel-good fluff stuff, and teachers and administrators have fewer problems. Don't like this idea? Fine. Enjoy your socialistic public schools where tax money is king, students get crumbs for education and Uncle Government controls every facet of the educational experience. Make no mistake. Liberals want to run your life, womb to tomb. Freedom--it's a beautiful thing, IF given a chance.
