City holds fourth annual 'Star Spangled' July 4th
By Karen Kabiling
The city of Sunnyvale and the department of parks and recreation will host its fourth annual Star Spangled Sunnyvale Fourth of July on Wednesday, July 4, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Baylands Park in Sunnyvale.
There won't be any fireworks this year, said Jennifer Vivo, the marketing and special events coordinator. With most of the event's venues targeted for the children's entertainment, from carnival games and food booths to live musical entertainment, Vivo said there's something for the each member of the family to enjoy.
Nominal fees for some activities range about 50 cents apiece. Tickets will be available for purchase.
Some of the attractions include two astro jumps (complete with inflatable slides), clowns, face painting, a pie eating contest, a petting zoo and pony rides.
There will be main-stage entertainment all day, including a performance by Blues duo Robert Lowery and Virgil Thrasher at 12:30 p.m.
In his third and final performance at the Sunnyvale event, the 19-year-old "Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Competition and Festival" winning Blues guitarist, Corby Yates will perform from 2 to 4 p.m.
Vehicle entry fee is $3.50. Parking is limited--carpooling is highly recommended.
Baylands Park is located at 999 Caribbean Drive, at Lawrence Expressway and Highway 237, in Sunnyvale. Call 408.730.7350 for more information.
