White Sox lead Big League
The Sunnyvale Southern Little League played the role of a rather ungracious host when the Scotts Valley Little League made the trip all the way over the Santa Cruz Mountains for a recent Big League Division doubleheader.
The Southern White Sox didn't treat the visitors well at all, rolling to 3-2 and 13-6 wins on Farrell Field at Sunnyvale Middle School.
The Sox improved to 8-2 with the two victories and they hold on to first place in the District 44 Big League Division.
The White Sox, playing with only 16- and 17-year-olds in the division for players ages 16-18, opened the doubleheader with a tight 3-2 win.
Mario Formosa doubled, tripled and homered to account for all three Sunnyvale runs in the game.
Jon Frecceri came on in relief of the injured White Sox starting pitcher and retired nine of the 10 batters he faced to pick up the win. Formosa finished up, fanning two with the bags loaded in the seventh to claim the save.
David Hafeman homered to lead the offense and Chris Stockhaus tossed four innings of shutout relief to lead the White Sox to the 13-6 win in the nightcap.
Formosa ripped four hits in the second game, giving him seven for the day and pushing his season average to .400. Frecceri had four hits to drive in five runs in the twinfill.
