Council has three open positions

The Sunnyvale City Council has three vacant seats. Two are open, unchallenged seats and one is currently occupied by an incumbent who will run for reelection. Councilmembers are the elected, policy-making board for the city, making decisions regarding land use, long-term planning and the budget. The filing period is July 14 through Aug. 8 for the unchallenged seats, and through Aug. 13 for the incumbent's seat. Candidates must declare which seat they intend to run for when picking up the forms. Candidates packets will be available at the City Clerk's office at Sunnyvale City Hall, 456 W. Olive Drive. Fireworks illegal in Sunnyvale

With upcoming July 4th festivities drawing near, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety wishes to issue a reminder of the illegality of using fireworks inside the city.

Section 16.52.440 of the Sunnyvale Municipal Code states that it is unlawful for any person to possess, store, offer for sale, sell at retail or explode any fireworks within the Sunnyvale city limits. This includes, but is not limited to, torpedoes, skyrockets, roman candles, sparklers, party poppers, paper caps, firecrackers and fireworks kits. "Safe and sane" fireworks are also prohibited.
