Bonvecchio is MVP
West Valley Community College's Brett Bonvecchio, a former Prospect star, was named the most valuable player in the Southern Division of the Coast Conference when the league's baseball coaches got together to select their all-league squad.
Bonvecchio was one of 11 Vikings to be named to the all-conference list, and he joined his coach as a special honors winner on the team. Mike Perez was named the coach of the year in the Coast Conference's Southern Division.
Starting pitcher Jason Windsor (Leigh), catcher Darrel Jacks (Prospect), first baseman Josh Kreuzer (Leigh), infielders Erik Dean (Wilcox) and Tim Reimer and outfielder Kevin Carr were Vikes selected to the all-conference first team.
Winning second-team honors for West Valley were starting pitcher Isaac Preciado, designated hitter Ryan Realini (Monta Vista) and utilityman Greg Baker (Leigh).
Freshman outfielder Ryan Bernard (Saratoga) was named to the honorable mention list.
San Jose City College players earning all-Coast Conference honors included: first team-- relief pitcher Eric Wagle, infielder Effren Trejo; second team-- starting pitcher Ray Loredo, infielder Wayne Andrade and outfielder Nick Gardiner; and honorable mention-- infielders Jesse Merrill and Brian Cleveland.
In the Northern Division, De Anza Community College players earning all-conference first-team honors were Matt Mueller (Cupertino), Scott Dierks and Justin Mead.
