    Rosebuds, Eagles pull off victories

The Rosebuds and the Eagles both had to battle from behind, but both pulled out victories in the first round of the District 44 Little League major softball Tournament of Champions.

The Rosebuds of the Sunnyvale National Little League fought back from an early 3-1 deficit to roll to a 19-6 victory over the Jaguars of the Sunnyvale Southern Little League.

And the Eagles of the Sunnyvale Metro Little League were down 12-4 before putting together a remarkable comeback to edge the Los Altos-Mountain View Diamond Pac 14-13.

Kim Glass tossed six innings, striking out eight, and Tiffany Yang belted a double to lead the Eagles to the impressive win over the Diamond Pac.

The Pac had broken a 4-4 tie with an eight-run rally in the top of the fourth. But the Eagles got four runs back in the home half of the fourth, then added three in the fifth and three more in the sixth to win it.

The Rosebuds, meanwhile, picked up three runs in the last of the third to pull in front of the Jaguars 4-3, then the 'Buds unloaded with seven in the fourth and eight in the fifth to win the five in five innings.

Clara Lopez struck out five and allowed just seven hits to pick up the mound win for the Rosebuds.

Kayla Marsh doubled in the fourth and tripled in the fifth to knock in five runs for the Rosebuds. J. Svoboda also doubled and tripled to drive in three runs in the win. She also scored four runs.

Colleen Powers struck out 11 for the Jaguars in the game, including nine in the first three innings, but she was tagged with the loss.

Christy Austin singled and tripled for the Jags and Stephanie Kruckengurg had two hits. Christine Linse doubled and Vanessa McDonald singled and was hit by pitches twice.
