    FUHSD plans for 75th anniversary

The Fremont Union High School District celebrates its 75th anniversary in May 2000. To plan for the event, community members and FUHSD employees past and present formed a 75th anniversary committee. The committee formally consists of eight people, although many others in the community have contributed their input. Others are still welcome to join.

"I don't want to give away any details yet, but it's going to be a yearlong celebration, not just a one-event thing. It's going to be a celebration of both the district and the community," said Cindy McArthur, committee coordinator.

The committee hopes to begin its celebration this fall, with small events at schools in the district.

"One of the things we're trying to do is to reinstate old traditions that schools used to have," McArthur said. "Each school is looking into things like that." She cited the bonfires at former Fremont High School homecoming games as a possible example.

"Our goal is to culminate [the celebration] in April or May with a community picnic, but we're open to all kinds of ideas," McArthur said.

For more information on the FUHSD's 75th Anniversary Celebration Committee, or to join, contact Cindy McArthur at 522-2206.

    Host families wanted

The Council for Educational Travel, USA, is looking for host families for French high school students. The organization seeks to provide students from other countries with the opportunity for educational travel and cultural immersion in the United States. The French students will be in the Bay Area for three weeks in August. Minimal obligations will be to provide them with their own beds and two to three meals a day. For more information, contact Karen Christensen at 749-0245.
