Los Altos to play for District 44 crown

    Tulowitzski sparks National to win

    By Dick Sparrer

Each team will be on a mission when the major division championship is determined in Little League District 44 this week.

Of course, the mission for each club in the finals will be to secure that coveted district title and earn a trip to the Section 5 tournament in Santa Clara.

Los Altos will be trying win its first ever district championship in the title game set for July 17, 5 p.m., at Washington Park (corner of McKinley and Mathilda avenues in Sunnyvale).

And as for the opponents? Well, they'll be looking for a little revenge and back-to-back victories on Tuesday and Thursday.

Campbell and Santa Clara Westside met Sunday (results were not in at presstime) to play for the right to face unbeaten Los Altos. Both clubs lost to LA earlier in the tournament (Campbell falling 16-6 and Westside losing 7-6). The winner will meet Los Altos on Tuesday, but must win twice to wrest the title away from the unbeaten club.

Westside earned the shot at Campbell with a 3-0 win over Mountain View last Friday.

    Junior division

Kevin Cunningham was 3-for-3 with a double to lead Cupertino National to a 5-2 win over Sunnyvale Serra in the junior division all-star event.

    Daniel Hauan doubled for Serra.

Chris Morris ripped a two-run single in the first to key a four-run rally and start Sunnyvale Southern on the road to a 6-3 win over Tri-Cities.

Lance Turner allowed just one hit in three innings to get the pitching win.
