Host families needed for exchange students
AFS Intercultural Programs (formerly known as the American Field Service) is currently searching for host families for several international exchange students who will be placed in the Bay Area and surrounding communities for the 2001-'02 academic year.
Each year, more than 2,600 high school students from around the world are hosted in communities across the nation, and 1,900 American students are sent abroad to 44 countries.
Host families open their homes to students and provide them with a bed, meals, guidance and support. Host families can be two-parent households with small children, teenagers or no children at home. Single parents, grandparents, same-sex couples and adults with no children are also welcome to host.
Families receive support from the AFS staff and more than 8,000 volunteers. Students come with their own spending money and medical insurance and the desire to participate as active members of their host families and communities.
Families interested in hosting an exchange student or who wish to receive more information about the program can call 800.AFS.INFO or go to www.afs.org/usa.
