    City council filing period now open

    The filing period for the Sunnyvale City Council opened July 16, and will continue to Aug. 10. Potential candidates can pick-up paperwork that includes a packet and election binder. The paperwork is now available at city hall.

    There are three seats on the council open in the November election. The terms of Council members Fred Fowler, Julia Miller and Jim Roberts all expire in November. While Roberts is ineligible for re-election because of term limits, both Fowler and Miller are eligible to run again.

    Construction for assisted living community starts

    BelmontCorp President Patricia Will announced July 12 that the assisted living community called Belmont Village is on schedule for completion in August 2002. The 100,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style community will be located at 1039 E. El Camino Real in Sunnyvale and will feature 136 residences, with 22 residences in a special neighborhood for seniors with Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

    Moffet open for public comment

    The U.S. Department of the Navy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board

    invite the public to comment on the proposed plan for the eastern diked marsh and storm water retention pond at Moffett Federal Airfield.

    The proposed plan is available for 30-day public review and comment from July 23 to Aug. 22. The Navy will also hold a public meeting to present an overview of the plan and record public comments.

    Fremont High School names new principal

    At its meeting on July 17, the board of trustees of the Fremont Union High School District unanimously approved the appointment of April Scott as principal of Fremont High School. Scott is replacing Pete Tuana who was promoted last month to district assistant superintendent for educational technology. Scott has been the assistant principal at Fremont since 1998.
