Armed robbers hit liquor store, pizza restaurant

Two men, one armed with a handgun, stole an undetermined amount of cash from a Sunnyvale liquor store in a July 23 robbery.

At 11:30 p.m. that day, Sunnyvale Public Safety officers responded to a call from LakeVista Liquors on Lawrence Expressway. The clerk reported that the armed suspect demanded cash while the second suspect confronted other employees in the store.

The clerk complied with the suspects' demands, and the two men left the store with the cash prior to the arrival of the police.

Both suspects were described as black males in their mid-20s, approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall, with short black hair and muscular builds. One man had a mustache and a goatee. Both men wore dark clothes.

The case is under investigation.

In a separate incident, a pizza restaurant was robbed at gunpoint July 21 by two men wearing bandannas over their lower faces, according to the Department of Public Safety.

The men entered Sierra Sam's Pizza on East El Camino Real at about 9 p.m., hit one of the employees with a pistol, stole money from the cash register and safe and then fled, police said.

The pizza clerk, who suffered a minor head injury, refused medical attention, police said. Both suspects were described as black men in their early 20s, about 5-feet-11-inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds.

One was wearing a black baseball cap and long sleeve green sweatshirt. The other wore a red "Calgary Flames" jersey and blue jeans.
