    Auditions begin for Starmites

    Auditions for Sunnyvale Community Players Junior Theatre's production of the rock-musical fantasy "Starmites," will be held Aug. 19 and 20 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Community Center Theatre, 550 E. Remington Drive (at Michaelangelo), Sunnyvale. Callbacks are scheduled Aug. 21 and 22 at 6:30 p.m.

    All roles for performers ages 8 to 18 are open. A non-traditional cast will be considered. Technical and backstage crew are also needed. Those auditioning should bring a recent photograph (or one will be taken for $1), a prepared song not from the show and should be dressed to dance. An accompanist will be provided.

    Local teens are honored at volunteer awards banquet

    Sunnyvale All-Star Summer Recreation teen volunteers are being recognized at the Volunteer Award Banquet on Aug. 9 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Community Center.

    The all-star baseball-themed banquet will highlight the teens and their hard work. Awards will include Best New Volunteer and Volunteer of the Year.

    Singers wanted for chorale

    The Valley Chorale, a nonprofit organization, has announced openings for singers for the fall season repertoire for the 12 concert series, locally and on tour, which will include classics, spirituals and pops as well as a costumed musical theater medley. Both a cappella and accompanied music will be featured.

    Rehearsals will be held Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at 1515 Partridge Ave., Sunnyvale. Call 408.732.2588 for more information.

    Inaugural Air Expo at Moffet

    Bay Area residents will be able to attend the Inaugural Air Expo on Aug. 11 and 12 at Moffet Field, at NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View.

    Ticket prices range from $10, for children ages 4 to 10, to $15 for adults. Children younger than 4 will be admitted free. Reserve seating with complimentary on-site parking is available by advance purchase only at www.airshownetwork.com.

    Event hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with gates opening at 8 a.m. Limited off-site parking is available with free secured bicycle parking at the Ellice Street entrance. Additional VTA bus and light rail service will also be offered during the event.
