Byron Sher sets meeting dates
State Sen. Byron Sher will hold local town meetings this month.
On Aug. 12, Sher will be at the Saratoga Senior Center at 9:30 a.m. and at the Cupertino Library at 11 a.m. On Aug. 26, there will be a meeting at 11 a.m. at the Almaden Community Center and at 12:30 p.m. at the Willows Senior Center in San Jose.
Sher will start each meeting with a short presentation about what's going on in Sacramento and then open the floor to questions.

Potluck Picnic
The Asian American Parent Association is playing host to an annual Potluck Picnic for Newcomers on Sunday, Aug. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Queensboro Swim Club, 1138 Miller Ave. in San Jose. This is an opportunity for newcomers to the Fremont Union High School district to meet with teachers and school district officials. Topics for discussion include tips on communicating with teachers and school administrators to enhance the educational experience and on adjusting to a new environment.
Attendees are asked to RSVP by Aug. 16, to Ming-li Chu at 408.447.1941, or Cathy Chao at 408.255.9343. Swimmers are asked to bring $1 each to allay pool usage costs.
