Special Olympics

With the summer season drawing to a close, plans are already under way for the Special Olympics fall season.

Volunteers are needed for sports training in soccer, long distance running and power lifting. Coaches are needed for the eight-week season, and no experience is necessary.

A volunteer orientation meeting is set for Aug. 8, 7 p.m., at the Special Olympics office on Chambertin Drive in San Jose. For more information, call 408.267.2734 or check their Web site at www.sonc.org/sccso.

Impact tryouts

The De Anza Impact, a girls under-11 Class 1 soccer team, is holding tryouts for the fall season on Aug. 9 and 11. Players born after July 31, 1989, are eligible. Soccer tryouts

The Sunnyvale Spartans, a boys soccer team that competes in the CYSA Class 1 division, is looking for players for the fall season. Boys born after July 31, 1989, are eligible. For tryout information, email jch_2000@yahoo.com or call 408.720.1882.

Wrestling club

The Sunnyvale Wrestling Club will hold practice every Tuesday and Thursday, 6-7:30 p.m., in the wrestling room at Fremont High Call 408.522.2400, ext. 350.
