Local swimmers head to the Cotillion Friendship Invitational meet in Barcelona

As the late-afternoon sun casts long shadows into the Sunnyvale Middle School pool, small clumps of kids in bright swim caps and goggles are gathered in different concrete corners of the pool area. Some are singing 'Happy Birthday' to a teammate, some are tickling a lifeguard, and some are towel-wrapped and consumed by body-engulfing shivers. These are all members of the Sunnyvale Swim Club (SUNN), and 20 of them--along with a handful of parents--are headed to Barcelona, Spain, this week to compete in the Cotillion Friendship Invitational. There will be a one-day clinic in Barcelona, followed by a day-long competition which will be capped off with an awards banquet and dinner for all the swimmers. The rest of the time will be devoted to touring Barcelona and a trip to Paris with members of the other teams.   More
