Council to vote on downtown
City Council members will vote to finalize their agreement with developers on the first phase of the new downtown at an Aug. 18 meeting.
If councilmembers approve the redevelopment contract with the Mozart Development Group, architects and planners will be given the green light to fill in the details of the $10 million project.
On the table for approval is a development of three office buildings with retail shops, an upscale hotel, underground parking and a public plaza at the corner of Mathilda and Evelyn Avenues.
In exchange for the 5.5 acres of city-owned land, Mozart will build an underground parking garage, contribute $1 million toward the construction of a public plaza and reimburse the Redevelopment Agency for the costs of developing the land.
Learning center offers seminars
The director of a new learning center, A Closer Look, (see story page 6) is offering free seminars to parents of children with learning difficulties.
The seminars are at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 18 and 20. Call 496-1660 or 861-0345 for more information. Space is limited, and reservations are recommended.
Educational Therapist Judith Stubbs, director of A Closer Look, will explain how the services at the center can help students be successful in school.
