That's the Spirit
The Spirit of Sunnyvale Marching Youth Band won its second consecutive Summer Bands International Championship in Los Angeles July 27.
Under the directorship of Dave Gary Jr., the 31 band members performed Theme and Variations by 20th-century composer Bela Bartok.
Spirit is entering its 17th year of providing the youth of Santa Clara Valley an education in music and marching. This year's band consists of 18 wind and 13 percussion players. Members are between ages 12 and 19 and come from several middle and high schools throughout the valley.
