Library to hold class on creating gourmet paper
The Sunnyvale Public Library invites the public to hear Sunnyvale resident and author Ellaraine Lockieher describe how people can make their own distinctive paper from inedible parts of fruits and vegetables.
Lockieher, author of The Gourmet Paper Maker, will provide a taste of what papermaking is all about during a demonstration of her papermaking methods at the Library Program Room of the public library on Aug.18 at 11 a.m. A question and answer session on techniques and materials will also be included. Admission is free.

Japanese American Cultural Festival to be held Aug. 18
The West Valley Japanese American Citizen's League/Next Generation is hosting the 24th annual Daruma Festival Japanese American Cultural Festival on Aug. 18 at Saratoga Lanes Bowling Center (across from Westgate Mall).
Japanese foods, crafts, performing arts and games for children will be provided. There will be a special performance by San Jose Taiko. Admission is free. Parkinson's Institute offers monthly seminars
The Parkinson's Institute offers monthly seminars to inform the community on issues dealing with Parkinson's disease. This month's seminar is "Occupational therapy for Parkinson's patients and their caregivers," on Aug. 16 at 12:30 p.m. at the institute, 1170 Morse Ave., Sunnyvale.
Janet DeMaria, an occupational therapist, will discuss how simple changes to a patient's environment and the use of adaptive equipment may increase independence within the activities of daily life. Call 408.542.5644 for more information.
