    No excuse for violations

I have a couple of comments about your recent story on Lakewood Village. [Sun, July 26].

First, I was misquoted. When reporter Daniel Hindin and I were looking at a particularly junky house, I said, "Would you want to pay $400,000 to live next to this?" Out of 1,600 homes in my neighborhood, between 50 and 100 need focused attention from Sunnyvale's code enforcement team.

Second, I disagree that the reason for the many code violations is lack of money. How much money does it take to NOT pave a front yard with concrete?

Also, for those who do need it, there is a ready source of funds. It is the hundreds of thousands of dollars in equity in each house.
