Public Safety
The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Public Safety Department
Shoplifting--Aug. 12, between 12:15 and 12:45 p.m., 100 block of Lawrence Expressway at Costco. Store security observed a suspect take cigarettes from a rack, walk to the back of the store and hide them on his body before attempting to leave the store. After his arrest, police transferred him to Santa Clara County Jail for an outstanding warrant.
Urinating in Public--Aug. 10, 2:30 p.m., Plaza and Bradford drives. Police issued citations to two male suspects, ages 27 and 29, for urinating on the sidewalk.
Possession of Marijuana--Aug. 10, 12:51 a.m., 600 block of S. Barranca Drive. Police responded to the report of a fight and found three males fighting behind a store. One of the suspects, 27, gave a false name and date of birth to an officer. When the officer got his wallet from the car, he discovered a glass smoking pipe with a usable amount of marijuana and numerous small plastic bags.
Battery--Aug. 8, between 2 p.m. and 3:55 p.m., 800 block of Knickerbocker Road. One female suspect hit another woman in the face and stomach, and in response the second woman threw the first against a brick fireplace. Both women were taken to the hospital, one with a swollen face and stomach pain, and the other with a swollen spine and leg and arm scratches.
Vandalism--Aug. 8. 8:20 p.m., 1100 block of Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road. A female suspect went to her husband's apartment (the couple has a pending divorce and are living separately) and demanded to speak to him. When he refused, the suspect keyed his truck, causing paint damage.
Grand Theft--between Oct. 1998 and Aug. 6, 1200 block of W. El Camino Real at the Good Guys. A male employee confessed to the store's security that he had taken a computer and six other items since October 1998, amounting to $4,969.93.
Battery--Aug. 3, 7:45 p.m., 300 block of N. Fair Oaks Avenue. Police arrested a 25-year-old male for spousal battery, false imprisonment, and making terrorist threats.
