The Sunnyvale Photographic Club is showing some of its snappier shots at the Creative Arts Gallery through Sept. 14.
In black-and-white and a rainbow of colors, the "Through the Lens '96" exhibit contains a plethora of images from Sunnyvale and other Peninsula photographers. Their works fall into several categories, including scenic and nature shots, photojournalism, pictorials and abstract photography.
Through meetings, demonstrations and related activities, photography lovers have opportunities to share their interest and broaden their knowledge.
Carolyn Gang, one of the photographers whose works are on display, has participated in this event since 1980. This year, she is showing five photographs, featuring subjects from the Virgin Mary to pets. The event gives her an opportunity to seek new photographic adventures, she said.
"I really like to see what everyone is doing, to get new ideas and compare," Gang said. "I'm always trying to read books, because I get bored after so many years."
Gene Gere, general chairman of the exhibit, has been a member since 1979. He said most of the photographers in this year's exhibit take pictures as a hobby, although some are semi-professionals.
"There's a reason for [events like this]. It gives people in the club a chance for others to see their works. There's a sense of pride to having their works displayed in a fine art gallery," Gere said.
Gere said most of the works on display are not for sale.
The Creative Arts Center Gallery is located in the Sunnyvale Community Center at 550 E. Remington Drive in Sunnyvale. Gallery hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday, 1-5 p.m.; and Saturdays 10 a.m.-noon. Admission is free. For more information, call 730-7731.
