    Sunnyvale Library holds Feng Shui demonstration

    David Daniel Kennedy, the author of Feng Shui for Dummies and Feng Shui Tips for a Better Life, will be appearing at a free event at the Sunnyvale Public Library on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. The Chinese art of Feng Shui involves placing objects in the home or office to create a harmonious environment.

    Free Composting Workshop

    The Home Composting Education Program for Santa Clara County in coordination with the city of Sunnyvale is sponsoring a free Composting Basics Workshop by Certified Master Composter volunteers on Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Sunnyvale Community Center Arboretum, 550 E. Remington Drive, Sunnyvale. Residents can purchase a low-cost composting bin following the class. Pre-registration is required for the free event. Call 408.730.7262 for more information.

    Child Safety Fair at Vallco

    The City of Cupertino, Santa Clara/San Mateo Safe Kids Coalition and other various organizations will be sponsoring the First Annual Child Safety Fair on Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Vallco Fashion Park, 10123 N. Wolfe Road, Cupertino.

    More than 25 local organizations will provide information concerning safety in the home, school, and the community. Those who bring their in-line skates, bicycles and car seats can receive free safety checks.

    For us to better serve you with the car seat inspection, please bring your car seat instructions, vehicle owner's manual and child or children. Walk-ins are welcome and will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. To make a reservation, please contact Sergeant Karen Burgess at 408.777.3173.

    California Youth Symphony

    The California Youth Symphony has openings for trombone, French horn and string bass players in its most advanced ensemble. Conductor Leo Eylar will hold auditions through September.
