Obituaries
Dorothy Jean Alexander
Sunnyvale resident Dorothy Jean Alexander died at age 63 on Aug. 13. Alexander was born in 1936 in Hot Springs, AR and moved to Tracy in 1940. She later moved to Sunnyvale where she worked for Amdahl until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, flowers, arts and crafts and was learning to paint.
Alexander is survived by her five children, Pearline Lang of Sunnyvale, Vivian Lang of Stockton, Eddie C. Lang, jr. of Tracy, Martha Anne Turner of Tracy, and Eaileen Allen of Stockton. She has nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were provided by Fry Memorial Chapel in Tracy.
Vesta B. Berger
Longtime Sunnyvale resident Vesta B. Berger passed away Aug. 16 at age 90. Berger was born on Feb. 12, 1910 in Castle Gate, Utah and was raised with six other siblings in a log cabin on a homestead in western Wyoming. During the World War II, she worked as a decoder. In 1933 she married Lewis Berger, who passed away in 1972. In 1951 they moved to California, where she spent 20 years volunteering, organizing and coordinating services for the senior citizens of Sunnyvale. In 1985 she was honored by the city of Sunnyvale with the Distinguished Citizen of the Year award, and was admitted to the Senior Citizens Hall of Fame by Santa Clara County.
Berger is survived by her daughter, Lorene Hughes of Campbell and two sons, Thomas Berger of Waterford, ME, and Byron Berger of Denver, CO. She also has six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorial arrangements were made by St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Santa Clara.
