HS cafeterias Þght waste
Fremont Union High School District cafeterias are doing their part to lessen the impact of waste on our environment. Beginning this fall, the cafeterias are switching from the standard milk carton to the new "Mini-Sip" milk pouch packaging. It is estimated that switching to the pouches, which use 70 percent less packaging by volume and 80 percent less by weight than cartons, can reduce milk-container trash by up to 70 percent.
Representatives from DuPont Pouch Systems will be on the Cupertino, Lynbrook and Monta Vista High School campuses at brunch today--the first day of school--to introduce the new "Mini-Sip" milk pouches to the students. They will be at Fremont and Homestead high schools on Sept. 2, when the new school year begins on those campuses.
Along with the new milk pouches, the district cafeterias are now purchasing napkins that are made from 100 percent recycled fiber and that are 100 percent bleach-free.
