Roller hockey tourney

A roller hockey tournament is slated for Sept. 20-21 at the Roosevelt Rink in San Jose for players in the pee wee (14-under) and bantam (17-under) divisions. There will be six teams in each division, and the cost is $150 per team. The registration deadline is Sept. 15. For more information, call 277-5556 or 286-0195.

Maltbie Classic

The annual Roger Maltbie Classic golf tournament returns to San Jose Country Club on Sept. 5. The entry fee is $180, and proceeds benefit the golf programs at local high schools and at San Jose City College.

The tournament is named for the former PGA star who grew up in San Jose and starred as a prep golfer for James Lick, playing at that same San Jose Country Club.

'49er Special'

Going to a San Francisco 49ers game? Well, why not leave the car at home!

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is making that possible by providing direct bus service to all home games.

The fare is $13 for a round-trip ticket ($6.50 one way), and a season pass can be purchased in advance for $80. Buses arrive at the stadium 30 minutes before game time and depart 20 minutes after the end of the game.
