Ralph Abel named Sertoman of Year
Sunnyvale resident Ralph Abel recently received the Sertoman of the Year award from the Sertoma Club of Sunnyvale.
Abel received the award for his service to the club and the community.
Abel first joined the club in 1989, when he received the Service to Mankind award. He served as the club's treasurer in 1993-94 and secretary in 1994-95. He was elected president for 1995-96, but he declined due to health problems. Abel has been actively involved in the Sertoma Club's Heritage programs.
He has been involved in many community service activities, such as volunteering at the Santa Clara County Special Olympics for track and field events from 1989 to 1994 and working at the Sertoma Club's fundraising events, such as the Fourth of July concession booths and the June Art and Wine Festival winetasting.
Correction
An Aug. 21 story in The Sun about NASA's plan to consolidate the nation's research aircraft to Southern California incorrectly stated the cost of the proposal. The move is projected to cost the agency $11.3 million.
