Good deeds get rewarded
Fremont High School student Melissa Evans, 18, was surprised on her graduation day with a brand new IBM Aptiva computer and two years of free Internet connection. The gift, presented by Dr. Stephen Yao, a San Jose orthodontist, was given to Evans because of her participation in Yao's "Do A Good Deed" contest. Thanks to her nomination by her school principal, Pete Tuana, Evans was presented with the computer on stage at her graduation. Evans has spearheaded a youth conference aimed at learning about leadership and contribution to the community. Besides getting inspirational talks from various speakers, the participants also helped clean up a nearby church that was damaged by a tornado.
It's Elementary
Two Sunnyvale elementary schools reaped the benefits of local shoppers. The "It's Elementary" program, developed by the Regency Realty Corporation, tracked sales from Loehmann's Plaza receipts that were submitted by shoppers from the two elementary schools, Nimitz and Stocklmeir. Students, parents and educators dropped their receipts in the "It's Elementary" drop boxes at the shopping center and schools. Nimitz Elementary earned $1,000 and Stocklmeir Elementary earned $500 from this program. Regency Realty is the leading national owner, operator and developer of grocery-anchored neighborhood retail centers. For more information about "It's Elementary," call Shannon Stanford at 925.935.5900.
