Sunnyvale leagues

Openings remain for basketball, softball and volleyball teams interested in playing in Sunnyvale Recreation Department- sponsored adult leagues this fall.

The entry fee is $350 per team for softball, $510 per team for basketball, and $210 per team for volleyball (leagues charge an additional $10 for non-residents). Softball and basketball play begins Sept. 7 and volleyball competition begins Sept. 25.

Carousel to Coaster

The annual Carousel to Coaster Run returns to Great America Sept. 28, 8:30 a.m. The 10K run and 5K walk begin at 8:30 a.m., and the course cuts right through the middle of the amusement park in Santa Clara.

The registration fee is $17 by Sept. 15 and includes a race T-shirt. Race-day registration is $20, and shirts will be available while supplies last.

Roller hockey tourney

A roller hockey tournament is slated for Sept. 20-21 at the Roosevelt Rink in San Jose for players in the peewee (14-under) and bantam (17-under) divisions. There will be six teams in each division, and the cost is $150 per team. The registration deadline is Sept. 15. For more information, call 277-5556 or 286-0195.

Punt, Pass and Kick

The annual NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contest will be held Sept. 28, 3 p.m., at Camden Park. The free contest is open to boys and girls ages 8-15 (as of Dec. 31, 1997). For more information, call 277-5556.

Flag football

Third and Long Sports will host the Red Zone II four-on-four flag football tournament on Sept. 13 at Independence High School in San Jose.

The entry fee is $100 per team and all teams are guaranteed a minimum of two games. All participants receive a tourney T-shirt, and prizes will be awarded to the winning teams.
