Stan a stand-up guy; LaSala lacking culture
Granted, Stan [Kawczynski] isn't glib. Lacks guile. I find those refreshing non-politician pluses. I see in Stan a standup guy, even when the lone dissenter. Someone who wants to preserve traditional values. Sees Sunnyvale capable of accommodating an Amdahl and Olson's Fruit Stand without becoming just another dot on an urban sprawl map. So please, Stan, continue to speak out. There are many Sunnyvale citizens who recognize and appreciate your contribution to the greater good of our city.
To the Bob LaSala issue: When Steve Jobs was asked to comment on John Scully, he succinctly replied that he had hired the wrong man. From New York and Pepsi to Silicon Valley running Apple apparently proved too great of a cultural stretch. And too daunting a task to fill Steve's shoes.
With all due respect to Bob, I see great similarities here. When IBM had its PC manufacturing operation in Boca Raton, there was some commonalty with Sunnyvale. But that is long defunct and abandoned. Thus the cultural deficit.
But more important was the task of filling [previous city manager] Tom Lewcock's shoes. In my opinion he was Sunnyvale's Alan Greenspan. So, I don't depose Stan. But find Lewcock and have him recruit, hire and train someone to implement his budget program. This can be funded by eliminating the $200,000 plus expenses lobbyist travesty for which Stan and other citizens have fruitlessly requested an accounting.
