Watermelon Run
It's watermelon season again. And that means they'll be off and running on the trails across the Fremont High School campus.
Because watermelon season at Fremont doesn't necessarily mean that it's time to harvest the garden--it simply marks the beginning of yet another cross country season.
The 17th annual Watermelon Run returns to Fremont on Sept. 9 when students, faculty and alumni join together for a 2.1-mile run across the campus.
When the starting gun blasts at 3:30 p.m. All the runners will take off on a course that is contained within the athletic fields at Fremont. And the race that started out as just a fun way to start a new year has turned into a pretty competitive event, according to Fremont cross country coach Pat Lawson.
A week after holding the Watermelon Run, Fremont will host the 14th annual Firebird Invitational. Top runners from 15 area schools will compete in the Sept. 16 event.
