Josh Smurphat trust fund established
In response to requests from the public, a trust fund for the family of Joshua Smurphat has been established, according to Nancy Reed, the Smurphat family attorney.
Smurphat fell to his death Aug. 22 while riding the Drop Zone at Paramount's Great America Park in Santa Clara. Investigations are still under way into the circumstances that surrounded his death.
According to Reed, Tami and Alicia Smurphat established a trust fund for donations from the public to offset their expenses. The fund is through the Union Bank, account #8273016587 in the name of "Smurphat Trust." Donations can also be sent under the same name, care of Nancy Reed, 830 Hillview Court #240, Milpitas, Ca. 95035. For more information, contact Reed at (408) 262-7992.
School district honors teacher
At the last meeting of the Sunnyvale School District, the district presented an award in the shape of a school bell to Kay Peterson for starting the School History Program.
Peterson collected artifacts throughout her long-time teaching career from her travels and started displaying her collection in the back of her station wagon in 1983. She visited classrooms and spoke
on Sunnyvale's history for years before moving the program to the Murphy Park building. Classes then came to view her collections on field trips and toured the historical museum.
She taught at Fair Oaks, Mango, Ellis, Carson, San Miguel, Pippin, and Bishop before retiring in 1980.
