Vikings win award
West Valley Community College rolled up 170 points to claim its second-straight Coast Conference All-Sport Award. Chabot was a close second in the polling with 168 points and De Anza was third with 164 points.
West Valley's two-point margin of victory over Chabot was said to be the closest finish in the past 10 years of the competition.
Hit and throw contest
A hit and throw contest for youngsters ages 5-14 will be held Sept. 19, 4-6 p.m., at the Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale. The cost is $20, and proceeds benefit the MS society. For more information, call 925/706-9590.
Fall basketball
The Northwest YMCA is holding registration for boys and girls ages 3-8 interested in participating in a fall basketball league. There are no tryouts, and no score in kept. The league is designed so that all children have the opportunity to play.
The season runs Sept. 18-Nov. 13, and games are played on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. For more information, call 408/257-7160, ext. 19.
Cupertino softball
Openings remain for adult softball teams interested in playing in a 10-game fall season on Wednesday nights in Cupertino. The registration fee is $425 per team, plus $10 for each nonresident. For more information on the Cupertino Parks and Recreation program, call 408/777-3129.
Adult sports
Sunnyvale is currently accepting registration for teams interested in playing adult basketball, softball and volleyball this fall.
The registration fee for men's adult basketball teams is $525, plus $10 for each nonresident.
The registration fee for men's and coed adult softball teams is $350, plus $10 for each nonresident.
The fee for coed adult volleyball teams is $225. Call Gary at 730-7334.
Sunnyvale soccer
The Sunnyvale Alliance Soccer Club, affiliated with CYSA, has limited openings in its fall recreational league for boys and girls in the under-6, under-8 and under-10 age divisions. Call 243-0136 or 733-KICK.
