Grand opening raises money for charity
Tarragon, a new restaurant located at 140 S. Murphy Ave., will combine its grand opening with a charity event to raise money for the Vanished Children's Alliance Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
All proceeds from voluntary donations will go toward the nonprofit organization, which works to prevent, locate and recover missing children.
Taragon will provide a no-host bar, complimentary hors d'oeuvres and live dance music.
Event features Iranian culture--food, art and performances
The second annual Iranian Arts and Culture event runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Quinlan Community Center.
The event features booths and displays, including one that shows how Persian rugs are made, and another with dolls, and an art exhibition. Food, music and dance performances will also be at the event, which is free and open to the public.

Gorts honored with Eagle award
Stephen Campbell Gorts, a 1998 graduate of Homestead High School, was awarded Eagle rank by the Boy Scouts of America for designing and building flower boxes at the Life's Garden senior housing project in Sunnyvale.
Gorts now attends San Jose State University and majors in chemical engineering.
The Eagle award is the highest rank in Boy Scouting and is earned through one's commitment to the community.
