King's wins, 'Birds fall
The King's Academy girls' volleyball team is off to a solid start in the young season, but Fremont lost its opener last week.
King's handled Sequoia 15-12, 15-7, 15-10 and beat a tough Cupertino club 15-10, 15-9, 15-12 to push its record to 7-1 in the new season.
Fremont opened the year by losing a 15-7, 15-12, 15-6 decision to Valley Christian in nonleague play.
Knights lose one
Ralph Madrigal and Greg Doro each scored goals, but the King's Academy boys' soccer team lost a tough 3-2 nod to Sacred Heart Prep in nonleague play last week.
Dons take pair
The De Anza Community College women's volleyball team opened the season with back-to-back wins over Modesto and Bakersfield.
Michelle Kandah (Prospect) buried two goals in a 3-1 win over Bakersfield, and she also had a goal in the 6-0 win over Modesto.
Jodie Walters (Fremont) came through with an assist in the Bakersfield game, and Dawnell Larsen (Fremont) scored a goal against Modesto for the Dons.
Adult volleyball
Openings remain for volleyball teams interested in playing in the Sunnyvale Recreation Department-sponsored adult league this fall.
