Nancy Tivol receives some high praise
The Sunnyvale Community is indeed lucky to have a citizen in its midst who continues to give back day after day to the community she loves. That citizen is Nancy Tivol.
I had the great pleasure of meeting and getting to know Nancy Tivol when, in 1983, she was elected to the Sunnyvale School District Board of Education. In the next eight years I witnessed Ms. Tivol give of herself with heartfelt dedication as she helped enrich many young lives.
However, I was not compelled to write because of Ms. Tivol's school board career. Instead I wish to make notation of the excellent job she is doing as director of Sunnyvale Community Services. Since Ms. Tivol has been at the helm, I have seen Sunnyvale Community Services grow ten-fold through her thorough dedication.
In her short time as director, Ms. Tivol has rallied the community and galvanized its support for the less fortunate citizenry of Sunnyvale. She has almost single-handedly secured a very fine base of area businesses, merchants and community organizations that not only donate monetarily but also volunteer their time and energy to make sure that needy citizens are served and helped.
Ms. Tivol has also been the driving force for the very successful Christmas Center that is opened every December by Sunnyvale Community Services to add a little joy to the holiday season for the needy and less fortunate. Along with her very dedicated staff and an army of volunteers, she secures donations from all sectors of the community and beyond to stock the center with food and gifts.
Ms. Tivol also has a genuine talent for grant-writing, securing many grants from philanthropic concerns. Ms. Tivol has won a host of awards for her great community service, including being named Sunnyvale's Distinguished Citizen of the Year in 1995.
Although the awards are numerous, as long as I have known her, she has never put herself above helping others. She gives so very much and expects nothing in return.
Nancy Tivol remains a glowing beacon of hope for the underprivileged of this community, as well as a source of pride that the citizenry of Sunnyvale can admire and respect.
