Go clean a creek

Residents are invited to put on their waders, hitch up their pant legs and ease on into the waters running through Sunnyvale for the 12th annual Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 21 from 9 a.m. to noon.

There are three sites being targeted locally for the cleanup, but one project already has enough volunteers to complete the job.

The two remaining sites are:

* The grounds and section of bay near the Water Pollution Control Plant on the northern end of Borregas Avenue. Volunteers at this site will help pick up trash and debris near the levee and, if there is a big enough turnout, venture into Baylands County Park for some more sprucing up.

* A stretch of Calabazas Creek along Wildwood Avenue, near Mission College. Volunteers will clean up debris in and around the creek.

For more information or to pre-register for a specific site, call the city of Sunnyvale Environmental Education Program at 730-7716.
