    Fall Book Sale

    The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library will hold their fall book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 30, at the Raynor Community Center in Sunnyvale. The sale is open to Friends members at 9 a.m., and bargain bag hours will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone wishing to become a Friend or renew a membership may do so at the sale.     String players wanted

    All string players, especially bassists, are invited to audition for the string sections of the Nova Vista Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra, about to enter its 35th season, performs four classical concerts during its regular season from November to May, all of which are in the Smithwick Theater of Foothill College. Each of the four concerts this season will be conducted by a guest conductor, and each a candidate for the permanent position of music director during the following season. In addition, the orchestra presents an annual children's concert. The Nova Vista rehearses Tuesday evenings at Lakewood School in Sunnyvale.     English Classes

    Two intermediate level ESL classes for adults, Conversation Skills I and Conversation Skills II, will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays from Sept. 25 through Nov. 27, at the Presbyterian Church in Sunnyvale. The skills I class is for those who already know the basics of English but want to become fluent. Skills II adds vocabulary enrichment and oral presentation skills.     Sunnyvale Theater

    The Sunnyvale Community Players are now performing The Wizard of Oz at the Sunnyvale Community Center Performing Arts Theater. The show, which opened Sept. 8 and runs through Oct. 1, can be seen Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available through the box office for $16 for adults, $13 for students and seniors, and on Thursday nights for $11.     Diabetes Support Group

    The Diabetes Support Group will meet the fourth Thursday of the month starting Sept. 28, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sunnyvale Senior Center. The group will focus on the emotional aspect of being a diabetic. Call 408.973.1291.

    International Street Faire

    The first International Street Faire will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 23, in front of City Hall Plaza in Sunnyvale. Events will include an art and photo show, children's crafts, a multicultural entertainment stage, display booths, food and demonstrations.
