The Sun Sunnyvale's Newspaper Sports Briefs Vikes, Dons open The West Valley and De Anza community college football teams will both open Coast Conference play this week at their home turf. The Vikings will host Sierra College in a 3 p.m. game on Sept. 25 in Saratoga, and the Dons will host Yuba a day later at 1 p.m. in Cupertino. Youth hockey The Silicon Valley Quakes, a traveling roller hockey team that plays out of San Jose, will hold try-outs for the 10-and-under and 8-and-under (ages as of Dec. 31, 1998) on Oct. 3 and 10, 2:30-4:30 p.m. each day, at the Gremic Roller Hockey facility at 401 Jackson St. in San Jose. Great America Run returns The annual Carousel-to-Coaster Run returns to the Great America amusement park in Santa Clara on Sept. 27, 8:30 a.m. The event features a 10K run and 5K walk.
