Fremont High alumni receive scholarships

Four Fremont High School graduates have each been awarded $1,500 scholarships for academic excellence, athletic prowess and other merits by the Sunnyvale Service and Athletic Club.

The organization, made up of business and community leaders from Sunnyvale, San Jose and Santa Clara, presented the awards during a luncheon at Michael's Restaurant in Sunnyvale on Sept. 18.

The recipients were: Rosina Lozano, 18, who will attend Stanford University and plans to study biology; Liza Trinidad, 19, who will attend UCLA and plans to study science; Jennifer White, 18, who also will attend UCLA and plans to study biology; and Shannon Ryan, 19, who will attend UC-Davis and will major in science.

Club treasurer Mickey Mendoza said the organization has awarded the scholarships--geared toward students who live in the Sunnyvale area--for the last 27 years. The scholarship funds are among the highest in Santa Clara Valley, he added.

The club raises scholarship funds through an annual golf tournament at the Sunnyvale Municipal Golf Course. The next golf tournament is scheduled for April 25, Mendoza said.
