Court date nears in murder case
A trial date may be set at a court hearing, scheduled for Oct. 31, for Marcus Anthony Eddie Armstrong, 20, who is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Dawn Saviya White, said Deputy District Attorney Joyce Allegro.
Armstrong entered a not-guilty plea in Santa Clara County Superior Court last year.
Armstrong, an unemployed retail clerk, was arrested by Sunnyvale Public Safety last August at the hotel where he and White, 21, were living.
He is being held at the Santa Clara County Jail.
Council OKs chapel for Hebrew school
The Sunnyvale City Council voted unanimously Sept. 24 to approve construction of a chapel/library at the South Peninsula Hebrew Day School.
Sunnyvale residents who live in the surrounding community expressed concerns about parking and traffic during an hour-long public hearing.
Since the school moved to its location on Astoria Avenue 20 years ago, students have used the multi-purpose room for a cafeteria, gym, library, theater and chapel.
Fred Zaghi, a member of the school's board of directors, said the building will be 6,750 square feet, costing an estimated $100 per square foot.
Farmers' Market
The Marin County Farmers' Market will host the Sunnyvale Farmers' Market Oct 5 at Murphy and Washington avenues from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.The market will include comparative apple and pear tasting and activities for children.
