Gymnasts Win
Alessia Dorin and Noelle Schulenburg of Cupertino were each individual winners, leading the Gold Star Gymnastics Club to a team championship at a Level 5 meet in Santa Cruz.
Dorin, competing in the 9-10 age division, finished first on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise on her way to a win in the all-around in the two-day meet. Schulenburg supported with a first in the vault, and she was third in the all-around.
Michelle Ho ended up second in the vault and second in the all-around for Gold Star.
Sarah Howell, in the 11-and-over age group, was first on the beam and floor and second in vault and bars to finish first in the all-around.
In Level 6 action at the meet, Diane Gaydos of Cupertino finished second in the all-around after placing third on the beam, floor and bars. Alice Shteyn of Cupertino was seventh in the all-around.
The same day, Gold Star sent a squad to San Mateo for a Level 4 meet and topped the field. Danielle Sepanek won the all-around in the 6-8 age division, finishing first on both beam and bars.
Special Olympics
Special Olympics will hold an orientation meeting on Oct. 9, 7 p.m., at the old Almaden Winery for those interested in participating as volunteers in the fall season.
