A Taste of the Greenbelt is coming to The Opera House

To celebrate the autumn bounty of local farms and vineyards while raising money for and awareness of the Bay Area's remaining open spaces, the Greenbelt Alliance is sponsoring "A Taste of the Greenbelt," a food- and wine-tasting event on Oct. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Opera House, at 140 W. Main St. in Los Gatos.

Founded in 1958, the nonprofit Greenbelt Alliance seeks to slow urban sprawl and preserve greenbelts--areas of farms, parks and open space preserves--throughout the greater Bay Area. So far, the organization has saved several hundred thousand acres.

This month's fundraiser features a variety of wines from Bay Area vineyards--including some from the Santa Cruz Mountains; meals prepared by chefs from local gourmet restaurants; and fresh produce and other items from four Greenbelt farms: Del Fresh Produce, Frog Hollow Farm, From the Ground/America Fresh and J & P Farms.

While eating and drinking, those attending can also listen to live music, participate in a silent auction, or view a photography show and sale.

Tickets are $45 per person. Proceeds benefit the Greenbelt Alliance's ongoing projects. All ticket purchasers also receive a one-year membership in the Greenbelt Alliance, which includes newsletters, invitations to outings and other events. For tickets, call 408.983.0539, or visit www.greenbelt.org on the Internet.
